CANNES 2012: Get Barbara Palvin's Stunning Makeup Look

Image of Barbara Palvin Courtesy of Vanitynoapologies. com

We are completely in LOVE with this makeup look - straight from the Cannes 2012 red carpet!  It' s so AH-MAZING that we decided to show our favorite beauty buddies how to replicate it at home.

Here goes!

THE SKIN:
Mimic Barbara's flawless, satin-y complexion by beginning with a moisturizing liquid makeup like Jean-Michelle Claire-Teint Anti-Age Liquid Makeup.  Use the silky concealer to hide any remaining imperfections and finish and set with Jean-Michelle Satine Translucent Powder.  This skin-perfecting trio is a available as a specially-priced set:  Jean-Michelle Satine Collection - NOW ONLY $25.90!

THE CHEEKS:
Subtle bronzing is all you need here... Simply brush a powder bronzer like Sara St. James Easy Color Bronzing Powder onto cheekbones, temples and hairline for a sunny glow.  That' s it!

THE EYES:
Begin by sweeping a cool, neutral shadow onto lids.  The dove grey (bottom right) in this palette is perfect!  Line eyes top and bottom with the black pencil, staying close to lash line.  Soften and set the pencil liner with the deep navy (top left) and finish with 2 coats of the mascara.  Our Diandra Irresistible You Collection has everything you need to create captivating peepers and is NOW ONLY $30.00!

THE LIPS:

This may be the easiest step yet!  Just swipe on some pinky-fuschia gloss and you're done!  Too Faced Mood Swing Lipgloss turns every shade from pink to fuschia based on your mood!  How cool is that?!?!

Don't have a red carpet event calling your name just yet?  This look is just as perfect for dinner, dancing and whatever else the summer has in store for you!

Remember, keeping abreast of the latest beauty trends is easy...

OUR SCENTSATIONAL SUMMER FRAGRANCE FAVE:

Ok - Here's the scoop:

It's heatin' up outside (finally!) and summer is just around the corner... The time has come to switch up your scents - Let's call it scent-sational spring cleaning!  Or, maybe not... ;)  Nonetheless, hot weather calls for a fragrance change... Better than an oil change, right?

Are you with me?!?!

Because warm weather and increased perspiration can intensify heavy musks and dramatic "florientals," it is advisable to switch to a lighter, fresher scent to keep you feeling and smelling super-cool - ALL SUMMER LONG ;)

THE SUMMER SCENT THAT MAKES US SWOON:  L’Eau d’Issey Eau de Toilette by Issey Miyake is a crisp, aquatic eau de toilette featuring a clean blend of floral, musky, and woody notes. Balanced, light, and luminous, L'Eau d'Issey's composition includes watery lotus, cyclamen, rose water, freesia and white lilies, with hints of amber seed and musk for a touch of sensuality.

One more thing, girls - Don't forget to stop by our HauteLook event for BIG SAVINGS ON ALL YOUR BEAUTY FAVORITES!!!  Ends 5/31/12 @10AM CST - Don't miss it!

READY, SET, GO! Say Goodbye to Frazzled Mornings With Our Get-Ready-Quick Tips!

Try abbreviating your morning routine with these time-saving beauty short cuts.  You'll look like a million bucks and have time to spare...

TIP 1: Where There's Smoke...

Get smoky eyes in a flash by lining eyes top and bottom with a soft, black pencil.  Go back and smudge entire line for the "smoky" look.  Try Sistina Eye Crayon Definire in Carboncino.
TIP 2: Be Top Heavy

Skip mascara on bottom lashes.  This saves both application and "clean-up" time.  Plus, it eliminates the smudging and dark circles that can occur later in the day/evening.

TIP 3: Just Dew It

Apply a rich cream like Jean-Michelle Beaute Creme Protecteur to brow and cheek bones for dewy highlights in a hurry.

TIP 4: When Pressed...

If you like to use powder, opt for a pressed version.  These give better coverage more quickly and create less mess.  Try the best-selling Madeleine Mono Oil-Free Translucent Powder.  It's a customer favorite!

TIP 5: The Broad-Strokes

Apply powder and blush with a large, fluffy brush.  This saves application time and eliminates the need for blending.

TIP 6: Try Global Warming ;)

For color and glow on-the-go, skip foundation - just a light dusting of translucent powder, and then head straight for the bronzer.  Diandra Sun-Kissed Bronzer creates warmth while evening out skin tone.

TIP 7: Clean up Your Act

Instead of using an overstuffed makeup bag, set up all your makeup and tools in one area of your bathroom.  You'll have an easier time finding what you need quickly.

TIP 8: Speak Softly

Opt for classic neutrals rather than trendy makeup colors.  This will save you the trouble of having to coordinate your look.  Plus, nudes are ALL THE RAGE right now...  Try Sara St. James Speak Softly Collection for all the tools you need to make an entrance without saying a word... BONUS?  It's 50% OFF FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY!
TIP 9: Take it Easy

Skip the full face wash in the morning unless you have very oily skin.  If you wash your face thoroughly in the evening, a simple splash of water should be sufficient in the A.M.

TIP 10: You Zig, We'll Zag...

Give hair instant volume by moving or "zig-zagging" your part.

READY TO SAVE SOME TIME?!!?!   On your mark... Get set....  GO!!!

Beauty Editor's Skin-Saver of the Week: Madeleine Mono Fresh Start Gentle Exfoliator

As summer approaches and weather warms up, it is more important than ever to exfoliate your skin regularly.  Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells and other pore-cloggers to reveal the fresh, new skin hiding underneath.  Not only does this make skin feel deliciously smooth to the touch, it also enhances the effectiveness and penetration of moisturizers and other treatment products.  What's more, after a good scrub (gently, gently), you'll notice your foundation and concealer go on like a dream!  This makes exfoliation one of the most important steps in your beauty routine.

For a smooth-as-silk complexion, try Madeleine Mono Act 1 Fresh Start Gentle Exfoliator for All Skins - a gentle exfoliator that helps purify and renew skin with moisturizing Jojoba beads. Enriched with Aloe Vera, and soothing Oat and Calendula Extracts, it gently sloughs off dead cells and clears pores so skin can breathe.

Madeleine Mono Act 1 Fresh Start also contains skin-toning, balancing and energizing extracts of Apricot, Avocado, Peach, Carrot, and Lily of the Valley to give you smoother, fresher, and more vibrant skin.

You’ll love its clean, fresh scent and the smooth feeling it leaves behind.  Find this and more great skin-savers - all at Cosmetique!

Summer's on its way!  That means sun, sand, surf and long, warm evenings out on the town...  It also means added stress on your skin.  Of course you know you need to wear broad spectrum UVA/UVB sun protection all year round, but even with the added protection, sun can take it's toll - particularly on delicate facial skin. As soothing and rejuvenating as it is to take a nice, long, swim in the ocean, don't forget that salt, and sand can also dry and irritate sensitive skin.

Aloe-based products have the ability to soothe and restore even the most sensitive skin and their light weight makes them the perfect choice for summer!  Enter Cadette Aloe Active Face Soother...

Take the first step toward healthier, brighter, younger-looking skin with our brand-new Cadette Aloe Active Face Soother!  This lightweight moisturizer instantly calms skin with soothing Aloe, Vitamins A, E and D, as well as Honey and Jojoba Oil.  It immediately softens, revitalizes protects and de-stresses delicate facial skin.  Smooth product onto clean, damp skin A.M. and P.M. as a daily moisturizer, or apply after outdoor exposure to calm stressed out complexions.

Take care of your skin this summer - always wear sunscreen, and remember to moisturize and treat dry, stressed skin with our Cadette Aloe Active Face Soother.  Taking care of your skin is easy...   With a little help from your friends at Cosmetique!

Splitting Hairs: Our Top Tips for Sexy Summer Strands

Oh, summer...  How do I love thee?

Let me count the ways...  I love your sunny days, and I love your long, warm evenings.  I love your water sports, and I love your outdoor festivals.  I love your barbeques and I love your garden parties.... What I do NOT love, is what you do to my hair!

Dry and frizzy, sun-damaged and waterlogged, my hair barely makes it through my favorite season.  Between the chlorine, the sun, and the humidity, it's a constant battle just to keep myself from looking like a modern-day Medusa!

Summer is THE toughest season for your tresses, so it's a good idea to take some extra precautions to protect those delicate locks during these steamy months. I've put together a list of 8 simple things you can do to take care of your hair this summer...

And, here they are!

1. Keep chemical treatments to a minimum.
Most chemical treatments have a drying and/or damaging effect on the hair.  This includes chemical straightening, hair color, bleaching, relaxing etc.  If you can forgo the chemical treatments for the summer, do it.  If you cannot (I cannot), attempt to do them with less frequency.  The more space you can put between those chemical treatments, the better!  I know it's hard when those roots are staring you down, but try:)

2. Wash hair less often.
Washing hair too frequently strips it of its natural oils leaving it dry and vulnerable to damage.  Try washing it every other day, if possible.  If you like, in between washings, you can rinse it in the shower and apply conditioner only.  This gives dry hair a moisture boost.

3. Use heated styling tools as little as possible.
If you're a blow dryin', flat-ironin' fool like some people I know (ME!), give it a rest over the summer. Try to air-dry hair whenever possible.  If this gives you styling problems, try a cute braid or a bun and call it a day!  If you must blow dry, high heat is actually best as it minimizes the amount of time your hair is exposed to high temps.

4. Get VERY regular trims.
My hairdresser tells me I should be getting a trim every 4-6 weeks!  Say goodbye to frizzy unmanageable split ends by picking up this one habit.  As hard as it is, this simple step removes damaged, sunburned, frizzy ends, leaving you with much healthier hair.  If you can at least stick to this schedule over the summer, you should be in pretty good shape.

5. Wear a hat or scarf if you're going to be outside for an extended period of time.
The best way to protect your hair from the sun is to cover it up completely.  Find a stylish hat or scarf and make it part of your outdoor uniform.  Added benefit?  This also protects your scalp from sunburn.

6. Get deep conditioning treatments. Most hair salons offer intensive conditioning treatments that are left on the hair for at least ten minutes.  Typically, they will cover your head in plastic wrap and apply heat to encourage deeper penetration.  However they do it, these treatments provide crucial moisture and conditioning to lackluster locks.

7. Minimize frizz with a stylish braid, bun or knot.
These looks are super fashionable right now and work wonders at banishing frizz.  If you style hair while it's still damp you get two hairstyles in one!  Leave hair up all day, then later, take it down and shake it out for beautiful, tousled waves.

8. Wet hair thoroughly before going into chlorinated or salt water.
This prevents hair from soaking up as much of the damaging elements when you swim.  When hair is dry and you jump into that pool, your parched hair is immediately waterlogged with the offending elements.  As you may know, too much chlorine can cause green hair.  It's happened to me ladies, too much chlorine will actually turn your hair green!  You should also rinse hair thoroughly with fresh water after swimming.

Yes, summer is a glorious season filled with long lazy days, and warm, fun-filled nights.  Don't let this otherwise fabulous time of year wreck your hair!  Follow my 8 handy tips and enjoy the rest of your summer with gorgeous, healthy locks you'll love!

Fragrance Made Simple: Do's, Don'ts and Our Expert Guide to Selecting the Perfect Scent

Finding your signature fragrance can certainly be a daunting task. With so many brands and so many different fragrances, how’s a girl to know where to start?  Then, once you find that perfect scent, how do you apply it?  Where should you store it?  How long will it last?

To answer all your fragrance questions and help you find the perfect scent, I’ve put together a list of 4 basic fragrance categories into which the majority of scents can be divided, as well as some basic dos and don’ts for choosing, wearing and storing your fragrance.

Most scents can be divided into 4 basic categories (fragrances may fall into more than one category):

Floral:  Think gardenia, roses, jasmine… These work well on all women of all ages and are appropriate for most occasions. They're pretty, feminine and very popular.

If you like florals, try Black Velvet.

Woody:  These frequently include scents like cedar, sandalwood and patchouli. Woody fragrances have an air of sophistication that is well suited to the more mature woman, and often work better for evenings and special occasions.

If you like woody scents, try Arabella and Diandra.

Green/Fruity: While they often work best for younger women (and those that are young at heart - of course!), they are, conveniently, appropriate all year round. Fruity and green scents tend to be light and playful (maybe a little sporty?) - not too serious - perfect for any fun-loving gal ;)

If you're a green & fruity femme fatale ;), try Annick Goutal Eau d'Hadrien.

Oriental:  For glamorous girls who want to turn heads, these warm sensual fragrances include rich notes like musk and vanilla combined with dramatic florals. Because these scents tend to make a statement, oriental fragrances are perfect for special occasions.

If you like orientals, you'll love our very own Monte Carlo.

Here are some basic dos and don’ts for choosing, wearing and storing your fragrance:

Do find a fragrance that compliments you and your natural scent.

Don’t choose a fragrance because you like it on someone else.

Don’t buy right away as the scent will change as you wear the fragrance around.

Do wear more perfume if you have dry skin.

Don’t spray perfumes on pearls or costume jewelry as the alcohol in the fragrance may remove the finish.

Do experiment with layering different scents to create your own unique fragrance.

Don’t overdo it.

Do put fragrance on your pulse points for maximum payoff. This includes wrists, throat, backs of knees, and the insides of the elbows.

Do try different fragrances late in the day as your sense of smell is sharper at this time.

Don’t feel like you must stick with just one fragrance. You can change fragrances from summer to winter as well as from day to evening.

Do store your fragrance away from extreme temperatures and sunlight.

Do Have Fun!  Fragrances are just another wonderful way for you to express yourself, your mood and your individuality!
